Compstar 2010 - 8-16 February, GANIL Caen, France

School and Workshop on Computational Astrophysics

Over the last decade, compact stars have been shown to be excellent candidates to test fundamental properties of gravity and matter under extreme conditions of densities, temperatures and isospin asymmetries. The analysis of these properties requires to develop numerical tools. Compstar2010 will focus on issues related to Computational Astrophysics.

Compstar2010 is divided in two major events:

  • The Winter School "Computational Astrophysics"
with a series of lectures by experts in the field, 8-13 February
  • The Workshop "Neutron star physics and nuclear physics", 14-16 February

This school is focussed on giving to the students some of the important numerical tools
for their research. The lecturers will present both some practical exercises on computer
as well as the basic concepts in the following topics:

  • Structure of Rotating Neutron Stars (E. Gourgoulhon)
  • Relativistic equation of state for hadronic and quark matter (S. Typel & T. Klähn)
  • Cooling of neutron stars (D. Page)
  • Magnetic fields in compact stars (J. Pons)
  • Solution of hyperbolic partial differential equations (L. Rezzolla)

Organizing Committee:

A. Chbihi (GANIL), F. Gulminelli (LPC), secretary: S. Rastello
